Newcastle United return to Premier League action later this week but have injury problems to deal with.

Wolves are up next for Newcastle United, who are looking for their first Premier League win of the season.

While there have been positives for Eddie Howe during their opening three games of the campaign, Newcastle’s performance against Leeds left an awful lot to be desired.

With the first international break of the season almost out of the way now, attention will turn back towards all things Newcastle.

After Wolves visit St James’ Park, there’s the small matter of Barcelona’s trip to Tyneside in the Champions League to contend with.

Having said all that, here’s a look at the latest Newcastle United injury news.

Sandro Tonali

Sandro Tonali suffered a shoulder injury against Liverpool, sparking fears that he would miss Newcastle’s trip to Elland Road.

However, the midfielder ended up playing in the 0-0 draw before representing Italy over the international break.

However, Tonali later revealed that his shoulder was still not fully healed.

“I spoke with the gaffer and the doctor, it was a difficult,” he told NUFC TV.

“I worked every day for eight hours, starting early in the morning and finishing after dinner just to play in this game. The shoulder is not 100%, it was a little bit of a risk to play but the team and the game was so important.”

Still, having played for Italy, there appears to be little reason why the midfielder cannot feature against Wolves.

Potential return date: Saturday 13 September 2025 vs Wolves

Sven Botman

Sven Botman has long suffered with injury during his time at Newcastle United.

The Dutch defender has missed 59 games for the club since arriving from Lille, derailing his progress.

At his best, Botman looked like one of the best central defenders in the Premier League. Hopefully, he can keep fit enough to build on that this time around.

Botman went off against Leeds after requiring treatment, but Howe confirmed the defender had avoided a serious injury.

The Newcastle United manager said: “I think he’s okay.

“I think it was time in the game for us to change [system], to try and find a way to win the game and score. That was the intention of the substitution.”

Jacob Ramsey

Summer signing Jacob Ramsey also came off injured against Leeds. Newcastle paid around £39million to sign Ramsey from Aston Villa and will hope he brings some crucial depth to the midfield unit this season.

Ramsey impressed on his Newcastle debut against Liverpool but was unable to continue after the first-half on his first start for Howe’s side at Elland Road.

The former Villa star suffered an ankle injury, with Howe saying: “Unfortunately, JJ twisted an ankle and it swelled up a little bit at half time. “

Potential return date: Unknown

Joelinton

Ramsey started ahead of Joelinton at Leeds after the Brazilian international suffered an injury against Liverpool.

The Brazilian left the pitch in tears after a groin injury, which would have sparked major concern on Tyneside.

Indeed, the 29-year-old missed a large portion of last season due to injury and Newcastle need him fit for the huge games to come.

Luckily, Howe revealed Joelinton had avoided serious injury when speaking before the Leeds game. Newcastle hope to have him back after the break.

“Joey’s scan was good but he will miss this weekend, we’ll hopefully get him back for the game after the international break,” confirmed Howe.

Potential return date: September 2025
