Newcastle United hierarchy frustrated as major transfer decision is made

Newcastle United have become victims of their own inconsistency once again.

Earlier this season, Newcastle were criticised for only playing well against the ‘big six’.

What followed was an incredible run, as Newcastle United won nine games in a row to surge up the Premier League table and get fans dreaming of winning silverware.

Now the Magpies are in the Carabao Cup final, while Champions League qualification is still a real possibility.

However, Newcastle’s Champions League aspirations have taken a hit in recent weeks.

Why the Newcastle United hierarchy have been frustrated

That is because the Magpies have lost three of their last four Premier League games, suffering defeats against Bournemouth, Fulham and Manchester City. Two of those games were at St James’ Park, where Eddie Howe’s side are usually formidable.

According to the Daily Mail, members of the Newcastle United hierarchy have been ‘frustrated’ by the recent inconsistent performances, given how well the same group of players did in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal.

That frustration is understandable, and it is a frustration that is shared by members of the Toon Army.

The disparity between some of the performances has been startling. At times, you do not know what you are going to get from this team. Newcastle’s performance against Man City was ‘unacceptable’, while they were simply irresistible over 180 minutes against Arsenal.

Whether missing out on Champions League will impact Newcastle United’s transfer plans

In a season in which Newcastle are desperate to return to the Champions League, they have squandered multiple opportunities to get more points on the board.

While Bournemouth and Fulham are very good teams, Newcastle should not be getting zero points from a possible six against them at St James’ Park.

If the Newcastle players miss out on Champions League qualification, they will only have themselves to blame.

And if Newcastle do fall short, there will be fears that major stars like Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon could push for a move away from Tyneside.

However, that is not going to happen.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are not going to sell any of their top players this summer, even if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.

That is a defiant stance from the club, and it underlines the ambition of the Newcastle United owners. Whether the Magpies return to the Champions League or not, there will be superstar exodus at St James’ Park.
