Newcastle United fans are delighted to see one of their summer departures getting regular minutes for their new club.

The summer transfer window felt like a substantial changing of the guard in several positions, with six senior players arriving and several others leaving on permanent transfers.

Eddie Howe was ruthless with his departures in the summer, with Sean Longstaff leaving for Leeds United after almost 20 years at the club, while longstanding striker Callum Wilson’s Newcastle United departure was confirmed in July.

Those players have gone on to have rather slow starts at their new club, with Longstaff getting his first start against the Magpies, while Wilson is yet to start a game in the Premier League.

Another player sold in the summer was goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, who completed a permanent move to Burnley. The 36-year-old joined Newcastle in 2018 and went on to make 165 appearances under three managers.

Burnley fans have taken a shine to Dubravka to the delight of Newcastle fans.

Newcastle United fans buzzing to see Martin Dubravka praised at Burnley

Dubravka endured an embarrassing start at Burnley, where he became the first goalkeeper in the Premier League to fall foul to the new eight-second rule. However, things have improved since then.

After a brave performance against Liverpool, where he only conceded a 95th-minute penalty from Mohamed Salah, Burnley fans were quick to praise the Slovakian. Their view was seen by Newcastle fans on X, who shared their opinion.

“Really happy he’s doing so well and getting the love from the fans that he deserves,” said one fan, while another added, “You’re welcome. He’ll always be loved on Tyneside.”

This Newcastle fan wanted Dubravka to stay over Nick Pope, saying: “Didn’t want to see him leave us. I preferred him over Pope. Honestly, you did great business landing Dubravka – he will help you through this season. I like him so much, he’s in my fantasy football squad.”

“He was immense last season and was very unlucky to lose his place when Pope was fit again,” said this pleased Newcastle fan.

Another fan added: “He’s a class keeper, was sorry to see him leave NUFC.”

Finally, this Newcastle fan said: “Was immense for us and glad he’s getting regular football again, was so unlucky to concede yesterday!”

Martin Dubravka will always be loved by Newcastle United fans

Aaron Ramsdale is Newcastle’s new goalkeeper, so when he arrived, it was clear that it was the end of the road for Dubravka. Despite that, the 36-year-old was still putting in brilliant performances while Pope was out injured.

Some fans even believed that Dubravka should have started ahead of Pope in the Carabao Cup final following his heroics against Arsenal in the previous round.

There is no doubt that Dubravka is up there with the likes of Shay Given and Steve Harper as one of the best goalkeepers in Newcastle’s history. Fans knew he was special from his very first game, where he kept a clean sheet against Manchester United.

Even when he won a Carabao Cup medal with Man United, Dubravka said he was cheering on Newcastle to win at Wembley. The shot-stopper lived and breathed the club, but it is also great to see him getting the regular minutes he deserves.
