On October 7th, the Newcastle United takeover was confirmed. It first hit the press in January 2020, and more than a year later it was finally completed.
The deal signalled the end of the Mike Ashley era, a miserable 14 years that saw many Toon fans walk away from the club.
That’s why there was so much celebration on October 7th. Fans flocked to St James’ Park, cheering and chanting in unison as they toasted the departure of a man who had dragged the club’s name through the mud.

Now the club’s name is associated with a different beast entirely, as the Saudi involvement causes controversy across the globe.
Newcastle fans are caught in the middle and have been put in an unenviable position by the Premier League, who eventually decided to approve the deal last month.
But one thing that can’t be denied is that Toon fans are absolutely buzzing to see the back of Ashley. The Sports Direct man sucked the life out of the club to the point that it merely existed with no purpose.
While the deal went through last month, Ashley’s departure from the club has finally been made official.

Pz Newco Limited is the new holding company, with Amanda Staveley, Jamie Reuben and Yasir Al-Rumayyan named as directors.
So there it is in black and white. Mike Ashley is gone.
It’s something we already knew, but to have it confirmed officially is reason for Toon fans to celebrate once again. And that’s what they’re doing on Twitter, hoping for another round of #cans as they dream of a brighter future.
