Three of Newcastle United’s upcoming Premier League fixtures have been rearranged.
The Magpies’ next three games are all set to be broadcast in the UK, including the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.
Now more fixtures have been changed, with three of Newcastle United’s six games in April set to be shown by Sky Sports.
That has resulted in new dates and kick-off times. Newcastle United will now face Leicester City at 8pm on Monday April 7th rather than at 3pm on Saturday April 5th.
The next game after that is Manchester United at St James’ Park, which will now start at 4:30pm on Sunday April 13th rather than the day before at 3pm.
Finally, Newcastle’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa at Villa Park has moved from a 3pm kick-off to a 5:30pm kick-off. The date remains the same, with Eddie Howe’s side heading to the West Midlands on Saturday April 19th.
Newcastle United fans furious with Premier League and Sky Sports decision
It is no surprise that the games against Manchester United and Aston Villa have been selected by Sky Sports. They are massive games.
However, it is surprising to see the Magpies’ trip to Leicester be chosen for broadcast.
The decision has infuriated Newcastle United fans on social media, whose travel plans have been thrown into disarray by the Premier League’s latest announcement.
This Newcastle United fan asked a key question, writing: “How do they think people are going to get from Leicester back to Newcastle at 10pm on a Monday night.”
“Why do they move all our more local Saturday away games,” asked another Toon fan.
This member of the Toon Army summed it up, posting: “Leicester on a Monday night kills all travel plans.”
“Imagine Sky thinking that Leicester v Newcastle needs TV coverage and on Monday night as well,” joked a fourth Newcastle fan.
Another Toon fan commented on the kick-off time, writing: “8pm kick-offs for away games on a Monday should be illegal.”
Finally, this supporter was very angry: “TV companies really do not give a s— about travelling fans, do they? Leicester on the Monday night.”
Newcastle United fans not considered yet again
The decision is incredibly infuriating for the travelling Toon Army. Getting to and from Leicester on a Monday night is not going to be easy, especially those who plan to make the journey by public transport.
The game will not finish until about 10pm. That is no use to Newcastle United fans, who will not be able to travel home that night by train. The last train journey out of Leicester that arrives back in Newcastle at a reasonable time departs at 9:37pm – when Eddie Howe’s players will still be in action.
It once again sums up the lack of respect that the Premier League and its broadcasters show to travelling fans, as Newcastle United also prepare to travel to London on a Monday night to face West Ham on March 10th.
On the same weekend that Newcastle will now play Leicester on a Monday night, it is worth noting that Crystal Palace vs Brighton and Brentford vs Chelsea have not been chosen by the broadcasters.
Two local derbies have been ignored, while the Toon Army are tasked with an eight-hour round trip on a week night.
