Newcastle United fans deliver unanimous verdict after drawing Bournemouth in the FA Cup

Newcastle United have been drawn against Bournemouth in the third round of the FA Cup, and Toon fans have had a lot to say.

The third round of the FA Cup is set to take place in early January, with Newcastle United aiming to do better than they did last season. They made it to the fifth round, only to lose to Brighton in extra time.

This time their FA Cup journey starts with a Premier League opponent, with Newcastle facing Bournemouth.

It is another home tie for the Magpies, while it is a fresh chance for Eddie Howe to get one over his former club.

However, it is the Newcastle United manager’s Bournemouth allegiances that have Toon fans worried about their FA Cup third round tie.

Who is the one player you were FURIOUS with Newcastle United for selling? Go back as far as you want!

I’ll start: I’m still not over Mike Ashley selling Andy Carroll to Liverpool all those years ago!😡

Newcastle United fans are worried ahead of facing Bournemouth in the FA Cup

Since replacing Steve Bruce at Newcastle United, Eddie Howe has not had much luck when coming up against his former club.

Howe has only beaten Bournemouth once with the Magpies, and that came in the 2022/23 Carabao Cup. That was a 1-0 win in December 2022, with the game decided by an Adam Smith own goal.

The two sides have met seven times in the Premier League since Howe’s arrival at St James’ Park, with Newcastle failing to win any of them.

Given Howe’s record of one win in eight games against Bournemouth, it is fair to say that Newcastle United fans on X are not optimistic about their chances in the FA Cup.

In response to the draw, one fan wrote: “That’s us out… Always preferred the Carabao Cup anyway.”

“There’s always next year,” added another Toon supporter on X.

This Newcastle fan shared that sentiment, writing: “Ah well there’s always next year.”

“Literally the last thing we need right now, playing a team Howe can’t beat,” commented a fourth member of the Toon Army.

This Newcastle supporter could not hide their frustration, writing: “Nooooooooooo we can never beat them but at least it’s at home.”

Another Newcastle fan jokingly remarked: “Always preferred the Carabao cup anyway. Out in the first round.”

Finally, this Toon supporter posted: “Oh, brilliant. Newcastle drawn against Bournemouth, the one team Eddie Howe couldn’t beat if his life depended on it. It’s like he’s got a soft spot for his ex! FA Cup magic at its finest.”

Throwback time! Name the two players missing from the Newcastle XI that beat Bayer Leverkusen in February 2003!

Top marks if you can remember the centre-midfielder…

Newcastle United get another home draw in the cup

While Newcastle’s recent record against Bournemouth is poor, they are aided by the fact the game is at St James’ Park.

It is another home cup draw for the Magpies, who are regularly enjoying the luxury of playing on Tyneside in the cups in recent years.

Across the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, nine of Newcastle’s last 10 cup games have been at home. That does not include the Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal last season.

Out of those nine home games, the only defeat came against Brighton in last season’s FA Cup.
