Newcastle United have discovered their FA Cup third round opponents after they were handed a home draw against League Two side Bromley.
Eddie Howe’s side will host this season’s EFL new boys, who won promotion to the Football League for the first time in their history last season, on the weekend of January 11-12, 2025, with Magpies fans no doubt hoping that this will be the season that sees their cup end what would be a 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy next May.
It has been an inconsistent season for Newcastle so far, with Howe’s men claiming three wins in a row to go into last month’s international break, including victories over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup and Arsenal in the Premier League, but this pause in fixtures appears to have stunted this momentum.
Last week’s defeat to West Ham at St James’ Park was hugely disappointing and was followed up by a toothless display at Crystal Palace on Saturday, where the Eagles claimed a last-gasp equaliser, leaving Alan Shearer ‘worried’ ahead of Wednesday’s match against Liverpool.
But with the FA Cup third round now set, Newcastle fans have been reacting to tonight’s draw.
Newcastle United fans react to Bromley FA Cup draw

As soon as the draw was made, Newcastle fans took to X to give their verdict on their opponents, with a number of them hoping that a tie against a lower league side will see summer signing William Osula – who Eddie Howe last week said has really improved in recent weeks – get a chance to show what he can do.
This was echoed by another user @Memecastle_Utd, who posted: “Osula’s time to shine”, while @agbnufc_ said: “Osula is surely bagging,” and @PitaliyaVaibhav ageed: “Finally some game time for Osulaaa!”
Other fans were relieved to avoid a big team, while some fans also pointed out that former Newcastle goalkeeper coach and current Bromley boss Andy Woodman was going up against his former side.
“The Andy Woodman derby,” posted @SP_nufc and @AdrianNUFC_ said: “Andy Woodman returns,” with two flames emojis.

Newcastle host Aston Villa on Boxing Day, before they end 2024 with a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on December 30. Another tough match follows that, when the Magpies are away to Tottenham on January 4, with the FA Cup tie against Bromley taking place at St James’ Park the following weekend.
Clearly, the festive fixture list has thrown up some challenging matches for Howe’s side, who will need to find some consistency and attacking threat before the end of the month.
