While Bruno Guimaraes continues to delight, it’d perhaps be fair to say Newcastle United have had to change his role this season.
Upon his arrival at the club last January, the Brazilian largely played alongside Jonjo Shelvey and Joelinton in the midfield three, with the latter dropping deep to allow both Brazilians more license to push forward.
As a result, Guimaraes scored five goals in just 11 Premier League starts, finishing as Newcastle’s second-top scorer.

Indeed, his ability to break lines as a box-to-box midfielder was best typified during the dramatic win over Leicester in April. Guimaraes scored a wonderful second goal with a lung-busting run in the final minute to claim all three points.
Though the 25-year-old remains perhaps Newcastle’s standout player, however, things have to change.
Shelvey’s injury and then exit has forced him into a deeper role and the player himself has expressed a desire to play further forward.
Which explains the links with a move for a new midfielder.
Newcastle interested in Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are among the clubs keen on a move for Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes.
The Portugal international only moved to Molineux last season from Sporting Lisbon but is now a man in demand.
Previously hailed as one of the best players across world football in his position by Pep Guardiola, he has also been linked with a move to Liverpool.
Nunes scored a wonder goal against Chelsea
While it hasn’t been quite as good a season for Wolves as many would have expected, Nunes scored one of the goals of it during their recent win over Chelsea.
The Portugal international struck a sweet volley to down Frank Lampard’s side on the Blues legend’s return to the dugout, pundit Dion Dublin hailed it as “incredible” while others are already touting it as a goal of the season contender.
