According to Calciomercato, Liverpool, Chelsea and Everton want to sign Allan Saint-Maximin in 2022.
The Frenchman is Newcastle United’s talisman, and has enjoyed a sensational start to the season. While the Magpies have been poor on the whole, he’s been on fire.
So far Saint-Maximin has scored twice and provided three assists. He’s thriving through the middle, happy to carry the attacking burden on his shoulders.
With how well he’s playing, it’s only a matter of time before bigger clubs become interested. Combine that with Newcastle’s poor league position and the fear of him leaving St James’ Park is very real.
However, claims from Italy are surely wide of the mark.
Why would Calciomercato know Liverpool want Saint-Maximin?
The report states that Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton are options for the 24-year-old next summer. But why would an Italian website know who three Premier League clubs want?
If it was a Serie A club reportedly chasing Saint-Maximin, it might be a bit more believable.
However, this claim seems nonsensical and one that Toon fans shouldn’t worry about. The same outlet claimed we wanted Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the summer just gone.
Interest will come for Saint-Maximin. It’s inevitable. If he continues to perform the way he is, giants such as Liverpool and Chelsea will be keeping an eye on him. They’re probably already looking at him – that’s how well he’s been playing this season.
But genuine Premier League interest will come from a more reliable source, not from abroad.
