Newcastle United could reportedly follow up the Kieran Trippier deal with a move for Everton’s Lucas Digne.
The signing of Trippier is expected to be announced soon, with a £12million fee reportedly agreed on Tuesday evening.
According to the Telegraph, the 31-year-old will earn £130,000-a-week at St James’ Park.

And the report adds that Amanda Staveley and co will now turn their attentions to the opposite side of the defence. The Magpies want to sign a left-back in January, and the Telegraph state they will now press ahead with a move for Digne.
The French defender has fallen out of favour at Goodison Park following a bust-up with ex-Toon boss Rafa Benitez. He’s now a target for Newcastle, with Sky Sports stating they face competition from Chelsea and West Ham. They add that Napoli are also keen.
The Telegraph state that Newcastle’s hierarchy believe a deal for Digne could progress quickly, which will be music to the ears of Toon fans.

Lucas Digne could cost Newcastle a lot more than Trippier
While the Trippier deal looks like a bit of a bargain at £12million, Digne will likely cost a lot more.
According to Sky Sports, Everton want around £30million for the 28-year-old. That would make him the second most expensive signing in Newcastle’s history.
But it’s a fee we can certainly afford given our newfound wealth. And considering Digne’s ability, it would definitely be money well spent.

Left-back has been a problem position for Newcastle. Jamal Lewis failed to settle under Steve Bruce, while injury stunted his development under Eddie Howe after an impressive return. Matt Ritchie simply isn’t a left-back despite his endeavour. And Paul Dummett has struggled to keep fit in recent years.
While £30million is a lot of money, we would be adding a player who, like Trippier, walks straight into our starting XI.
With competition coming from Chelsea and West Ham, we may need to move quickly to get this deal over the line. As always, the sooner the better.
