Newcastle transfer news: Magpies now want Paqueta as Lyon name their price

Newcastle United have been linked with signing Lucas Paqueta throughout 2022, and now want to make a move for the Brazilian.

That’s according to 90min, who state that the Magpies are keen to bring the Lyon midfielder to St James’ Park.

Paqueta has been the dream signing for Toon fans, who want to see Bruno Guimaraes reunited with his good pal and fellow countryman.

It was reported earlier in the summer that Newcastle were willing to break their transfer record to sign Paqueta, but no move materialised.

The Magpies have since looked elsewhere, but, with the club struggling to sign attacking reinforcements, we appear to be back in the mix for the 24-year-old.

It had previously been suggested by Lyon chief Bruno Cheyrou that they could sell Paqueta, and that may now be the case.

A fee of £50million was previously claimed, but 90min believe Lyon will now sell for much less.

The report from 90min states that the Ligue 1 side would be willing to sell Paqueta for just £33million. They add that a figure like that appeals to Newcastle.

It certainly puts Paqueta within our price range. We have offered more money for James Maddison, with Leicester rejecting our bid of £45million plus £5million in add-ons.

The Brazil international now appears to be available for much less than Maddison, which is news that will delight Toon fans who want Paqueta to join the club.

He has already teased us earlier this year with a trip to Newcastle, where he visited Toon midfielder Bruno. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s number 39 has spoke about wanting to reunite with Paqueta at St James’ Park.

Bruno’s dream felt unlikely, but 90min’s report provides fresh hope of a deal.

Paqueta would be more than welcome on Tyneside. He is already adored by supporters given his affiliation with our current midfield extraordinaire.

But while Lyon’s price is suddenly a lot lower, a move to Newcastle might not be as easy as it sounds. 90min add that Arsenal are also interested. If they get Paqueta, it would serve as revenge for the way we mocked them over Bruno.

At the moment, 90min are the only outlet who are reporting talk of a fresh move for Paqueta. It will be interesting to see if any others follow suit, as that would really get Newcastle fans excited about this possible transfer.
