Newcastle transfer news: Toon make Bamba Dieng move but bid isn’t enough

Newcastle United have reportedly made a move to sign Bamba Dieng from Marseille. However, they have failed to meet the French side’s asking price.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who claim that the Magpies are one of three Premier League clubs to have registered their interest in the Senegalese forward. The other two clubs named are Everton and Fulham.

However, neither Eddie Howe, Frank Lampard or Marco Silva will be able to turn to Dieng soon. Unless they up their offers…

How much Marseille want for Dieng

Foot Mercato state that multiple clubs have ‘tested the waters’ over Dieng, but no one has offered the amount that Marseille want. The Ligue 1 side will sell the 22-year-old if they receive an offer worth £12.7million.

In today’s climate, that’s not a bad price for a young forward who clearly has the potential to get better.

This isn’t the first time this summer that Newcastle have failed to meet a player’s asking price. Leicester wanted £60million for James Maddison, but the Magpies only offered £50million. Leeds wanted £35million for Jack Harrison, but Newcastle were only willing to pay £25million.

And now Dieng, who currently plays alongside former Toon defender Chancel Mbemba, is the latest player Newcastle have made a move for but have failed to meet the asking price. However, we are not alone in this instance.

As well as Fulham and Everton, Foot Mercato also state that Benfica have been unable to satisfy Marseille’s demands.

Eddie Howe’s side clearly aren’t alone in thinking that Dieng isn’t worth the £12.7million that Marseille want. Given the number of clubs interested in his signature, you would think at least one side would take the plunge at that fee.

But while Premier League clubs stall over meeting his asking price, French sides are circling. Foot Mercato believe that Nice and Lorient are interested in a loan move.

However, both Dieng and Marseille reportedly want a permanent deal with an English club. That’s bad news for Nice and Lorient, but leaves the door open for Newcastle.

Dieng is being linked with a lot of Premier League sides, including the Magpies. He is likely one to keep an eye on as we edge closer towards the end of the transfer window.
