Newcastle United are reportedly one of multiple clubs keeping an eye on Kalvin Phillips’ contract situation at Leeds.
That’s according to 90min, who state that Marcelo Bielsa’s side are yet to hold talks with the midfielder over a new deal. The report states that Leeds are yet to present a new offer after failing to agree fresh terms last year.
Phillips’ current contract runs until the summer of 2024, and 90min state that Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal are ‘keeping a close eye on his situation’ – as well as Newcastle.
The 26-year-old’s stock dramatically rose over the summer, starring for England at Euro 2020. Phillips started every game as the Three Lions lost in the final to Italy.
He was linked with a January move to West Ham, but Leeds reportedly rejected the Hammers’ £50million proposal.
The report hardly suggests that Newcastle are definitely going to be in for Phillips this summer, but he is a player the Magpies have previously looked at.

In 2019, the Mirror claimed that Newcastle were keen to sign the then 23-year-old.
Back then, Leeds were in the Championship and Phillips had no experience in the top flight of English football. However, they still reportedly wanted £30million.
At the time of the Mirror’s report, the Magpies were actually without a manager following the departure of Rafa Benitez. Steve Bruce would soon be on his way, but no move for Phillips was forthcoming.
That was disappointing for Newcastle, but there’s no chance he would’ve kicked on as much as he has if he’d moved to the North East.
He’s now a star Premier League midfielder and an England regular – and a player who’ll cost a lot more than the £30million that was quoted nearly three years ago.
