Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Jobe Bellingham from Birmingham City.

That’s according to the Mirror, who state the Magpies are keeping tabs on the teenager’s situation alongside Liverpool and Manchester City.

It’s a name you will certainly recognise, as Jobe Bellingham is the younger brother of Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham.

Jude left Birmingham in 2020 to join Dortmund, and now his sibling could make a big move away from the West Midlands too.

He’s already made his senior debut, making three appearances this season for Lee Bowyer’s side.

The 16-year-old is yet to sign a professional contract, but has been offered scholarship terms by the Blues. The report adds that he is free to sign a deal with another club next season.

That’s put Newcastle on alert, as they look to build towards the future.

A clear route to the first-team could land Newcastle Jobe Bellingham

On the face of it, competing with Liverpool and Manchester City could be difficult. It’s also been reported that Dortmund could make a move to help keep older brother Jude in Germany.

Both Liverpool and Dortmund have a fantastic record of giving youngsters a chance, while Man City present the opportunity to work with arguably the best manager in the world in Pep Guardiola. Just look at how he helped develop Phil Foden.

In contrast, Newcastle’s record of developing youngsters isn’t great in recent years. That’s probably why Bobby Clark left us to join Liverpool last year. We also don’t have the appeal of being one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

However, our bright future could perhaps win us this race. The teenager might have a quicker route into the first-team if he were to join Newcastle, and we’re certainly a club that is going in the right direction. We might not be in Europe now, but that is certainly the hope of the owners.

Bellingham could develop into a key player for this new Newcastle United.

In contrast, he would already have a lot of competition at Liverpool and Manchester City. Meanwhile, a move to Germany might not be on his radar.

There’s also reported interest from Sunderland, but we have to be more appealing than a club that could still be in League One next season.

If Jobe Bellingham has the potential to be as good as his brother then this is a deal that Newcastle must absolutely pursue. It’s a potentially groundbreaking transfer that could boost the Magpies over the next decade and even beyond.
