Newcastle transfer news: Toon face PSG competition for Moussa Diaby

Newcastle United are not alone in their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby.

According to Sky in Germany, PSG are also interested in signing the 22-year-old. A move to Paris would see Diaby return to his former club, having left the French side in 2019.

They sold the forward to Leverkusen for around £13million. Now he’s worth almost four times that amount.

He’ll go for big money if he’s sold this summer – which is exactly what Newcastle and PSG have got.

How much Leverkusen want for Moussa Diaby

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has provided an update on the Diaby situation, insisting that the Bundesliga side want to keep the France international.

Despite Leverkusen’s desire not to sell, he states that Diaby is open to a move away. He could reportedly be sold if someone offers between £50million and £60million. However, there are yet to be no offers for the talented winger.

That kind of money would make him Newcastle’s record signing. In contrast, it would be a drop in the ocean for PSG who own the most expensive player in world football.

Paying £50million for one player would be a big deal for the Magpies, but it’s what they need to do if they want to sign players of Diaby’s calibre.

Interest from PSG is big competition for Newcastle

He would be a transformative signing for Eddie Howe, who is keep to add more goals to his Newcastle side. Diaby would certainly do that, providing 25 goal contributions last season. He scored 13 times and got 12 assists in the Bundesliga.

That’s why the Magpies are keen, but it’s also why they face major competition. And it might be difficult to compete with PSG. They have the lure of Champions League football, something he can’t get at St James’ Park.

They’re the biggest club in France, and Diaby may feel as though he has unfinished business there. He spent one season in the first-team at the Parc des Princes before being sold.

He would return a very different player and someone who has gone on to represent his country eight times.

But do PSG need Diaby? This is a team that has a forward line of Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar.

Diaby wouldn’t be a guaranteed starter in Paris, but he’d be the main man in Newcastle.

Talk of interest from PSG is concerning, but we’re still in the mix to land this exceptional talent. It would cost a lot of money, but he’d be worth it.

This rumour is certainly one to watch.
