Newcastle transfer news: Toon consider bid to sign Kamaldeen Sulemana

Newcastle United are reportedly considering making an official move for Kamaldeen Sulemana.

That’s according to French outlet L’Equipe, who claim the Magpies are interested in signing the Rennes 20-year-old.

Newcastle’s search for attacking reinforcements is taking them back to Ligue 1 – a market they’ve had great success in this year.

Bruno Guimaraes arrived from Lyon then it was Sven Botman’s turn from Lille. Now Sulemana is being linked, and could be the winger Eddie Howe is looking for.

Sulemana is an exciting winger

Newcastle need another option out wide, given the inconsistent nature of Miguel Almiron, Ryan Fraser and Jacob Murphy – and Allan Saint-Maximin to a certain extent.

More quality out wide would be a real bonus, which is why talk of Moussa Diaby coming to St James’ Park was so exciting. However, that is not happening, with the Frenchman deciding to stay with Bayer Leverkusen.

Various players have been linked, from Jack Harrison to Harvey Barnes, but we are yet to come close to a breakthrough.

Attentions could now reportedly turn to Sulemana, and he is certainly a star of the future. His speed is incredible – the way he beats players one on one is similar to Sadio Mane. Sulemana can slow the play down then go past someone in a flash.

The Ghanaian has real potential, and has been tipped to have a bright future by former Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko. He is currently the captain for Midtjylland, and faced Sulemana last season when he was playing for Nordsjælland.

Sviatchenko was very complimentary towards Sulemana, describing him as ‘amazing’.

“He is fast, strong and has an understanding of the game like few others,” he said.

“He’s on his way to something big, and it’s a pleasure to be tested against one of the great talents in Europe.”

Sulemana move to Newcastle could cost decent money

Finances have been an issue for Newcastle this summer, with multiple players proving to be too expensive. And there are no guarantees Sulemena won’t fall into the same category.

He joined Rennes last summer from Nordsjælland, costing an initial £12.5million. They will be hoping to make a huge profit, and it’s been claimed that he is valued at £30million. That’s less than what Leeds want for Jack Harrison, who’s valued at £35million.

However, it might still prove to be too much for Newcastle. It’s a lot of money to spend on someone who is only 20. It will depend on how much potential the Toon decision makers think he has.

If they believe Sulemana can go right to the top then it’s a no brainer. But it’s a difficult decision to make.

Reports in France state that Newcastle are considering an official bid, so it will be interesting to see how much money the Magpies put on the table.
