Sven Botman appears to have his heart set on a move to AC Milan – not Newcastle.
That’s the word coming out of Italy, as the chase to sign the Dutch defender continues. This has turned into a bonafide transfer saga now, with neither team completing a deal as of yet.
The momentum in this transfer tussle has swung back and forth, with both sides appearing to have the edge at certain moments in time.
Last week it looked like Botman was going to join the Magpies after a £30million fee was agreed. Now Lille have moved the goalposts and want more money.
Botman rejects Newcastle – he wants to move to Milan
While the clubs involve argue over money, it seems as if the player’s mind is made up.
This backs up what was reported earlier in the year when it didn’t look like the Magpies would re-enter the race for Botman. It had been claimed that the defender had agreed to join Milan.
The issue remains the fee. Botman wants to leave Lille, who appear to be somewhat willing sellers. AC Milan want him, and he wants them, so what’s the hold up?
Time for Newcastle to move on
If Botman is certain about joining Milan then Newcastle need to end this pursuit now. We’re wasting our time.
Lille are keen for him to join us, but that’s likely just because we’ll spend the most money on him. But if his heart is set on a move to Italy then we’re wasting our time.
If the word coming out of Italy is correct then we need to start looking at other targets. We’re the third wheel in this transfer saga and can’t spend our days waiting for Botman to potentially change his mind if Milan can’t afford him.
Of course, there’s no guarantee that this report is correct. The Italian media have been very adamant that Botman only wants Milan. However, it has been reported here that he’s open to joining Newcastle.
The truth lies somewhere in the middle probably, but Newcastle can’t afford to wait forever.
