Gianluca Scamacca is a man in demand this summer, with both Newcastle United and Arsenal eyeing the Italian forward.
The 23-year-old scored 16 Serie A goals for Sassuolo last season, leading to speculation that he could earn a move away this summer.
Newcastle are in the market for a striker, as Eddie Howe looks for more competition for Callum Wilson. The 30-year-old was our top scorer last season with eight, but once again struggled to stay fit.
That’s why the Magpies need another option up top, and the Chronicle state that Scamacca is on the club’s list after Steve Nickson checked him out.

Gianluca Scamacca’s asking price is more than £35million
But if anyone is going to sign the 6ft 5in striker this summer, it’ll cost big money.
The Chronicle state that Sassuolo want more than £35million for Scamacca. That’s a lot of money, and would rival the amount Newcastle paid for Bruno Guimaraes cost in January.
The Magpies paid an initial £35million for him, but that fee could rise to £42million with add-ons.

Is Scamacca worth just as much or possibly more than Bruno? His goal record doesn’t suggest as much, with last season being the first time Scamacca has hit double figures in the league.
But he is only 23 and has room to grow, while his physical size allows others to play off him.
Newcastle might be able to beat Arsenal
The Chronicle add that Arsenal have already had a bid turned down for the Italy international. They state that the Gunners offered around £35million, but Sassuolo said no.

Mikel Arteta’s side clearly think he’s worth that kind of money, as they too search for a new striker. They’ve already lost Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette in 2022, and desperately need to sign a goalscorer.
Scamacca is an option for them, but they could complete an even bigger deal. Arsenal are reportedly in talks to sign Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City.
If they land the Brazilian forward, they’ll surely be out of the race for Scamacca. That could give Newcastle a clear run at him – then it’ll be up to Dan Ashworth and co to decide whether or not he’s worth the money.
