Romelu Lukaku to Newcastle – it’s the summer rumour you just know is going to emerge in the tabloids sooner rather than later.

The Belgian striker has had a disastrous return to Chelsea. He swapped Inter Milan for a second chance at Stamford Bridge, but so far has just five Premier League goals to his name.

That’s not great for a man who cost £97.5million, and now he can’t even get in Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI. It’s led to speculation that the 28-year-old could leave Chelsea for a second time.

And with Newcastle in the market for a striker this summer, you just know a link is going to emerge from somewhere.

However, Lukaku has reportedly made his mind up on a move to Newcastle, whether the Magpies want him or not.

Romelu Lukaku ‘would not entertain’ Newcastle move

According to the Evening Standard, Lukaku is not interested in joining Newcastle this summer. That’s despite the fact the Magpies aren’t even interested.

St James’ Park is mentioned as a possible destination for the striker, but only because of the club’s newfound wealth. There is nothing to suggest Newcastle want to sign him.

But even if they did, Lukaku isn’t interested. For what it’s worth, I’m not interested in playing up front for Chelsea next season, even though no one’s asked me…

Lukaku would cost a huge amount of money. Chelsea would want a big transfer fee, while he would no doubt want to continue earning £300,000-a-week.

With the changing landscape at Newcastle, we are going to be shoehorned into every transfer saga. We have the financial muscle to sign whoever we want, but that doesn’t mean we will.

Eddie Howe isn’t going to turn Newcastle into the Harlem Globetrotters. We aren’t just going to sign ready-made superstars. Firstly, financial fair play wouldn’t allow it. Secondly, those kind of players aren’t going to want to join Newcastle yet. Thirdly, we don’t want those kind of players yet.

Newcastle can afford Lukaku, but he doesn’t want to come. And that’s fine, because we don’t even want him.
