There have been some really big names linked with Newcastle since the takeover happened.
Within an instant, the Magpies went from being linked with…well, no one to reportedly targeting some of the biggest players on the planet.
The Saudi-backed takeover turned Newcastle’s world upside down and produced shockwaves across the footballing landscape.

Transfer windows have been difficult in recent years. Mike Ashley was unwilling to spend the money required to truly compete in the Premier League. We’ve seen plenty of free agents and loan deals, while the club papered over the cracks with new contracts for players who’ve outstayed their welcome.
The short-term attitude of the previous regime has put the new regime under enormous pressure to act during the January transfer window.
But will PIF and co be targeting superstars next month to guide the club to safety like the Harlem Globetrotters?
Newcastle aim to avoid big names
According to the Athletic, Newcastle aren’t planning on signing any superstar names in January. The report states they will try and ‘steer clear’ of big names, despite plenty of those type of players being offered to the Magpies.

While the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Eden Hazard and Ousmane Dembele would be transformative signings, they could be recipes for disaster. They would arrive on incredibly huge wages, and no doubt inflated egos compared to the rest of our squad.
It could upset team harmony, while the fallout would be hugely embarrassingly and costly if we still suffered relegation to the Championship.
Big names will arrive at Newcastle United. But it will take time. This is a process, and the current stage is building a team capable of surviving in the Premier League. That is the immediate goal.
