Newcastle transfer news: Liverpool set Joe Gomez asking price

Liverpool have reportedly named the price clubs will have to pay to sign Joe Gomez this summer, amid claims Newcastle are keen.

The centre-back has been linked with a move away from Anfield at the end of the season. While Liverpool are flying, Gomez has barely featured.

He’s played just five times in the Premier League this season, and didn’t even make the bench for the Carabao Cup final win over Chelsea.

That increased speculation that he could leave Liverpool, with 90min stating that Newcastle are one of multiple clubs interested in his signature.

The Express also back up this came, and have provided an update on the Reds’ stance. They also state that Fulham are interested, as they prepare for a very likely return to the Premier League.

Newcastle must pay £23million for Joe Gomez

According to the Express, Liverpool value Gomez at £23million. That’s not as much as I expected.

Given the fact he’s only 24, he’s English and is a Premier League and Champions League winner, it wouldn’t have been a surprise to see Liverpool demand double that figure.

He’s a player Jurgen Klopp admires, with the German recently calling Gomez ‘incredible’.

But at £23million, Gomez could prove to be something of a bargain. It’s a fee Newcastle have already eclipsed twice since the change of ownership, with Chris Wood and Bruno Guimaraes costing more.

The Magpies will likely be in the market for a centre-back this summer, and Gomez certainly fits the bill.

The report from the Express states that the £23million price tag could put him out of Fulham’s reach, but it should be no problem for Newcastle.
