Newcastle United are now in a world in which they are touted as a genuine landing spot for leading players when they become available.

Not only do the Magpies have the money to attract such names, there is a level of ambition coursing through the club capable of turning heads.

With that in mind, going up against other big names in the transfer market should no longer be a concern for Newcastle.

Indeed, if they want to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, that’s exactly what they will have to do.

Liverpool make Mason Mount a priority

According to Football London, the England international has now been made something of a priority by Liverpool.

The Reds are thought to have pulled out of the race to sign Jude Bellingham and could instead turn their attention to Mount.

Newcastle have also been linked with the midfielder. Despite his importance to the cause at Chelsea over the years, Mount will be out of contract in 2024 and has not yet penned a new deal.

As such, the Blues could look to sell the 24-year-old and given his contractual status, he could be available for a reduced price.

Newcastle should be all over Mount at a reduced price

If Mount is available cheaper than he otherwise would be, Newcastle have to be alert to his situation.

With so much top level experience but also boasting the capacity to grow at his relatively young age, the midfielder looks very much like an Eddie Howe signing.

Though sometimes divisive, the fact is that all of Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel, Gareth Southgate and Graham Potter have rated Mount highly enough to regularly start him.

Able to operate in a number of positions and a palpable goal threat, Mount boasts many strings to his bow.

While perhaps not yet at the “world class” level Jody Morris predicted of him at Derby, the idea of Howe coaching such a talented player is a very exciting one indeed.
