Newcastle United will once again try to sign Hugo Ekitike from Stade Reims.

The forward was heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park in January, and at one point it looked like a deadline day deal was going to happen.

However, the teenager decided to stay in France, leaving Newcastle short in attack. It didn’t matter though, with Eddie Howe’s side going on to finish in 11th.

As for Ekitike, he’s had a frustrating second half of the season in Ligue 1. The forward missed a lot of football due to a hamstring injury, but returned for Reims’ final three games where he scored and got an assist.

That means Ekitike ends the season with 10 goals and four assists in 24 league games, which is a very impressive tally for the 19-year-old.

However, it could be his last season with the club, with increased speculation that he’ll be leaving Reims.

Reims want around £26million for Hugo Ekitike

It’s been widely reported that Newcastle will make a fresh move to sign Ekitike this summer. The Telegraph even claimed that he is ‘expected‘ to join the Magpies.

Now the Northern Echo have provided some fresh information on the situation. They report that Reims have indicated they are willing to sell the Frenchman for similar terms to what was agreed in January. Back then Newcastle were going to pay around £26million.

However, there is the looming threat of Borussia Dortmund, who have also been linked with Ekitike. They’re looking to replace Erling Haaland, who is joining Manchester City.

Sky have also claimed that PSG are keen. Then again, it’s hard to see where he fits in alongside Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar.

With a similar fee possible, Newcastle need to try and wrap this deal up as soon as possible. Ektike has plenty of admirers, and will have no shortage of offers this summer.

The Magpies seem desperate to get him, and it looks like they can for around £26million.
