Newcastle United look set to miss out on signing Dwight McNeil this summer.
The Burnley winger has been linked with a move to St James’ Park, as Eddie Howe looks to bring in a new winger.
Plenty of players have been rumoured, and it was recently claimed that Newcastle could move for McNeil if they fail to land Jack Harrison.
However, now it looks like the Magpies’ backup option could be going elsewhere before we even make a move.

Everton in talks to sign Dwight McNeil
According to John Percy from the Telegraph, Everton are in talks about signing the 22-year-old from Burnley. He has written on Twitter that Everton are ‘hopeful of agreeing a deal’ with Vincent Kompany’s side, adding that negotiations are ‘ongoing’.
Percy is the journalist who first broke the news about Dwight Gayle joining Stoke City, which was officially confirmed last week.
McNeil could prove to be a good signing for Everton, who are desperate for reinforcements. It’s been another summer of chaos for the Toffees, who narrowly avoided relegation last season.
They certainly need attacking additions, having sold Richarlison to Spurs for £60million. There has also been talk of Newcastle trying to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Anthony Gordon.

While Frank Lampard looks to stop his top players joining Newcastle, he might be about to sign a man who Eddie Howe has targeted.
McNeil is good, but it’s not a major blow for Newcastle
McNeil could be set to become another name for Newcastle to cross off their list of transfer targets. It’s disappointing, as he’s certainly very talented. Chris Wood is a big fan, while Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp believes he’s got ‘real quality‘.
However, Dan Ashworth must have good reason for not making a move.

The wide midfielder won’t cost a fortune, with it previously being claimed that Burnley want around £15million for him.
That falls within our remaining transfer budget, so Newcastle either have another player lined up or don’t think he’s a worthwhile addition. Otherwise we would be competing with Everton for his signature.
Whatever the reason, it doesn’t look like McNeil will reunite with Wood and Nick Pope at St James’ Park.
