Newcastle transfer news: Calvert-Lewin's representative was at SJP last month

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is being heavily linked with a move from Everton to Newcastle United this summer.

The Telegraph recently claimed that the Magpies will make a bid for the 25-year-old, who is unsettled at Goodison Park.

He’s been linked with joining Newcastle ever since the takeover went through, and feels the most likely striker to head to St James’ Park when the transfer window opens. Calvert-Lewin was valued at £60million in January, but surely won’t cost that much now.

Eddie Howe wants to add another option up top, despite the return of Callum Wilson. While he was excellent against Arsenal, his fitness record will always be a concern. His ability isn’t in doubt.

Calvert-Lewin is another player who’s had injury woes this season, and he scored his first goal since August on Sunday.

But will he be swapping Merseyside for Tyneside this summer?

Calvert-Lewin’s agent watched Newcastle lose to Liverpool

The Daily Mail report that DCL is on Newcastle’s list of striker targets. They add that his representative was actually at St James’ Park. They watched Howe’s side lose 1-0 to title-chasing Liverpool.

While the Telegraph have claimed that a bid for the striker is on the horizon, the Daily Mail are less convinced.

They believe other options will be explored first, as there is some concern at Newcastle regarding Calvert-Lewin’s form and fitness this season.

His fitness has to be the most worrying. Calvert-Lewin missed 14 Premier League games with a toe injury earlier in the campaign.

He started the season in blistering form, bagging three goals in his first three games back when Rafa Benitez was manager. A lot has changed at Goodison Park since then…

While his record this season hasn’t been great, Calvert-Lewin is certainly a decent player. He probably needs a fresh start somewhere else.

Newcastle could be that place, but his injury problems are obviously a big concern. We’ve already got one striker with fitness issues, after all.
