Newcastle United are still hoping to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton, but are taking the patient approach.
That’s according to 90min, who claim that the 25-year-old is still the Magpies’ priority target up front.
Calvert-Lewin has been linked with a move to St James’ Park ever since the takeover went through, and our interest has intensified this summer.

He was previously named as the club’s top attacking target, but a deal appeared to stall when Everton named their asking price.
The Toffees reportedly want £60million for Calvert-Lewin. While he is a ‘top striker‘ according to former boss Carlo Ancelotti, it is way more than he’s worth. And it is way more than Newcastle are prepared to pay.
However, 90min suggest that there still could be movement on this front.
Newcastle’s Calvert-Lewin transfer plan

Despite the triumphant scenes inside Goodison Park last season when Everton secured survival, Frank Lampard’s side are still in a bit of a mess.
They’ve lost their best player in Richarlison, while their only new signing is James Tarkowski on a free. Tensions are high on Merseyside, especially after Everton were thumped 4-0 in a pre-season friendly against Minnesota.
90min state that Everton may still need to bring in more money, despite getting £60million from Spurs for Richarlison. Newcastle are therefore remaining patient, in the hope that they lower their asking price.

It’s a tough situation for Everton. Do they take whatever money they can get so they can reinvest? Or is it more financially beneficial to keep a player of Calvert-Lewin’s calibre? It all depends on how much they need the money.
Patience is a virtue for Newcastle, and it will hopefully pay dividends this summer. Whether that means Calvert-Lewin moves to St James’ Park or someone else arrives, the Magpies will eventually sign attacking reinforcements.
But the Everton number nine remains the priority, and he is a player who could revitalise his career in the North East under Eddie Howe.
