Bristol Rovers reportedly want to re-sign Elliot Anderson this summer.
The Newcastle teenager has had a sensational loan spell in the South West, guiding the Gas to promotion.
Anderson scored the goal that clinched Bristol Rovers’ place in League One, with a famous 7-0 win over Scunthorpe on the final day sending Joey Barton’s side up the divisions.
It was the perfect end to a magical loan spell, where the 19-year-old scored eight goals and provided five assists.

He was far too good for League Two, and will be playing higher up the footballing ladder next season. And Bristol Rovers want him to join them in the third tier.
That’s according to the Chronicle, who state Bristol Rovers will promise guaranteed first-team football for the teenager. Academy director Steve Harper’s relationship with Rovers boss Barton could help secure a return for Anderson.
But there is also interest from the Championship.
Bristol Rovers form could force Eddie Howe to look closer at Elliot Anderson
The Chronicle also state that Howe could take a closer look at Anderson during pre-season. That would be wise given how well he’s performed in League Two. He was clearly head and shoulders above the standard in the fourth tier.
The next step in Anderson’s career is a difficult one. Does he go up one division to League One? Or has he shown he deserves a chance in the Championship? Or is he actually ready to play for the Magpies in the Premier League?

A return to Bristol Rovers would make sense. He’s already excelled there, and the club can be safe in the knowledge that he’ll get the minutes required.
But Newcastle may be keen for him to play at a side who will likely compete higher up the division.
With changes on the horizon at St James’ Park, it feels unlikely that Anderson will get a chance in the first-team next season.
While Bristol Rovers are keen to bring him back, a move to the Championship might be for the best.
