The chase for Federico Chiesa is getting interesting with Newcastle United expected to hold talks in the next few days over a summer move for the Juventus forward.

A report from Corriere dello Sport has broken down the situation with JuventussuperstarFederico Chiesa and has heavily suggested that Newcastle could be his next destination.

Chiesa’s agents are heading to England, officially on matters related to Christian Pulisic, but it’s believed that while they’re here they’ll be speaking with Newcastle, Chelsea and Liverpool over Chiesa, with the understanding being that Newcastle will be the most likely move.

Newcastle are edging closer to a move for the Juventus winger

After signing Sandro Tonali, Corriere dello Sport claim that Newcastle will be looking to bring in a second Italian in the guise of Juventus winger Chiesa to help with their upcoming Champions League campaign.

The report says Newcastle have a strong relationship with Fali Ramadani, Chiesa’s agent and that could help things move forward with talks planned to assess the feasibility of a negotiation between the clubs and the player.

While Juventus director, Cristiano Giuntoli is keen to keep Chiesa there’s a feeling that a €60million (£51million) from Newcastle would be too good to turn down. However, due to a cruciate ligament rupture and recurrences of it, there’s a feeling that his value may have dropped to around €40million (£34million), and that’s the figure that Newcastle will be looking at.

Corriere also reports that the relationship between Chiesa and manager Massimiliano Allegri is quite frayed which means that given his contract at Juventus runs until 2025 they face the prospect of having an unhappy player on their books for two more years if they don’t sell him.

Chiesa could be a great bit of business

So it sounds like it’s in Juventus’ best interests to make a deal and Newcastle could be the ideal destination with Champions League football to play next season and Sandro Tonali to link up with.

The price may be a sticking point as it’s doubtful that Newcastle will want to pay £51million for a player with a spotty injury record, regardless of his obvious quality.

Whatever the obstacles, I hope Newcastle can overcome them as Chiesa is a quality player, but he would need to be managed given his injury history.
