Newcastle United target Christian Pulisic was not a happy man last night after Chelsea lost to Southampton.

Thomas Tuchel’s side tasted defeat for the second time this season, despite going 1-0 up thanks to Raheem Sterling. But the Saints scored twice before half time to turn the game around, and they held on for a vital three points.

It was a bad night for Chelsea, and it wasn’t a good one for Pulisic either.

He was once again named on the bench, having failed to start any of Chelsea’s opening five Premier League games. The 23-year-old came on in the 66th minute, but was unable to inspire a comeback.

And after the game, Pulisic made his frustrations very clear for all to see.

Pulisic storms off the pitch

There was obvious disappointment from the Chelsea players at full time. It’s the second time in a row they’ve lost away from home.

The travelling supporters will have been underwhelmed by what they witnessed, especially after taking the lead.

At full time, the Chelsea players headed over to the away end to thank the fans that had made the trip, but Pulisic was nowhere to be seen.

A video filmed from the stands shows the American storming off the pitch and down the tunnel shortly after the full time whistle.

It’s something that hasn’t gone down well with Chelsea fans, but his frustration is understandable.

Chelsea won’t let him leave amid Newcastle interest

It seemed likely that Pulisic would be allowed to leave Chelsea this summer. He’s one of four Blues players who Newcastle want to sign, one of which is Callum Hudson-Odoi who has now joined Bayer Leverkusen.

As for Pulisic, he has reportedly been told that he will not be leaving Stamford Bridge. The Athletic state that he is disappointed by that decision. And that disappointment will only have been heightened after what happened last night.

Pulisic is desperate to play more regularly heading into the World Cup. But Chelsea won’t let him leave. Tuchel won’t start him, but he won’t sanction his exit either.

It’s led to an incredibly frustrating situation for the winger. Newcastle would have offered a solution to his problem, but that move no longer looks possible.

Whether or not Pulisic’s reaction last night changes Chelsea’s stance remains to be seen, but time is running out for him to secure a move away – be it to Newcastle or anywhere else.
