Newcastle United have been linked with signing Ismaila Sarr from Watford this summer, and he scored an insane goal from his own half on Monday night.
The winger was in action at the Hawthorns, as Watford faced Steve Bruce’s West Brom in Championship action.
The former Newcastle manager’s side started well, only to be undone by a moment of absolute genius from Sarr. West Brom eventually got back into it, earning a 1-1 draw thanks to Karlan Grant’s equaliser.
But all anyone was talking about after the game was Sarr’s simply ludicrous strike. It’s only August and we have probably already seen the goal of the season at any level. Whisper it, but it was probably a little bit better than Fabian Schar’s goal on Saturday…

The Ismaila Sarr goal that everyone is talking about
It took Sarr 12 minutes to score the best goal you will have seen and probably will see for a long time.
The Senegal international picked up possession with his back to goal just shy of the halfway line. Three touches of the ball later and it’s in the back of the net.
His first kills the ball dead, the second gets it out of his feet, and the third…the third is the true moment of brilliance. Sarr spots West Brom stopper David Button off his line, and produces a wonderful chipped effort that looped over the goalkeeper’s head.
It was like something you would see on the PGA Tour, or LIV Golf if you’re a fan of Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan’s breakaway tournament.
Former Everton defender Andy Hinchcliffe was commentating on the game for Sky Sports, and couldn’t believe his eyes.
“It’s a brilliant finish from inside his own half,” he said.
“It’s inch perfect. You can understand why Button is out of his penalty his area, his team are in possession.
That is just genius from Ismaila Sarr. We know he’s a talented player – he’s direct, he’s pacy – but he’s got vision. And he can finish. Sensational goal.”
Newcastle have been linked with Sarr
It wasn’t a perfect night for Sarr, however. He missed a penalty in the second half that would have put the Hornets back in front.
However, there isn’t anyone out there who won’t have been impressed with his goal. It was a thing of beauty and incredible immagination.

The strike will surely have caught the eye in the North East, as Newcastle have been linked with the 24-year-old. Sky Sports stated earlier in the summer that the Magpies could move for him as a cheaper alternative to Moussa Diaby.
While our pursuit of the Frenchman is over, we are yet to hear any more talk of Sarr possibly moving to Tyneside.
But his goal on Monday night will have done him no harm as Dan Ashworth continues to struggle in his attempt to sign a winger.
Watford want rid of their wondergoal machine, and it will be interesting to see if Newcastle do end up making a move.
