Before Eddie Howe arrived at Newcastle United, he was heavily criticised for his efforts in the transfer market.
Doubters pointed at multiple questionable signings he made as Bournemouth manager, suggesting he would have similar failures at Newcastle with their newfound wealth.
Of course, Howe’s ‘poor’ transfer record is a bit of a myth. While some signings didn’t hit the heights for him, the good certainly outweighs the bad.

And now one of his most criticised deals is starting to pay off. While Howe is thriving with Newcastle now, his former side Bournemouth are looking to return to the Premier League.
And if the Cherries do achieve promotion, they will owe a lot to the goals scored by Dominic Solanke.
20 goals for £19million Dominic Solanke

Bournemouth are currently second in the Championship, and look in a strong position to achieve automatic promotion.
They’re the division’s second highest scorers, and a lot of that is down to Solanke. He’s the Championship’s second top scorer behind Aleksandar Mitrovic – who’s already achieved a record-breaking tally.
But for Solanke, he’s enjoying his best season ever as a senior footballer. He currently has 20 goals – and that tally will surely increase with 15 games to go.
It’s a huge upturn in fortunes for the 24-year-old, who was signed by Howe for £19million in 2019. Solanke initially struggled at Bournemouth, ending his time in the Premier League with just three Cherries goals.

The young forward looked like a real transfer blunder by Howe. He’d wasted a huge amount of money on a striker who couldn’t score goals.
But while Howe has moved on, Solanke’s fortunes have changed. Now he’s one of the best strikers in the second tier, and proving he could perhaps now do a job in the Premier League. It’s more evidence that Howe’s perceived poor transfer record is a myth.
Solanke was linked with Newcastle in January, but remained at Dean Court. Howe is clearly a fan, and perhaps Newcastle will make a fresh move in the summer for the one-time England international.
