The promising attacker played three games last month, and has already banged in five goals.

Stephenson opened his account during the 1-1 draw against Reading to get the ball rolling.

He would then score back-to-back braces against Birmingham City and Burnley.

His haul means he currently tops the goalscoring charts. He is one ahead of Norwich City’s Abu Kamara.

His brilliant performances mean he’s now in with a chance of scooping the first Player of the Month award of the season.

He’s competing against seven other players chosen by the Football Premier League Development Panel.

They are Aston Villa’s Aaron Ramsey, Omari Giraud-Hutchinson of Arsenal, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Evan Ferguson, Harvey Vale of Chelsea, Manchester City’s James McAtee, Jonathan Tomkinson of Norwich City and Tottenham Hotspur’s Dilan Markanday.

It is a brilliant moment for Stephenson, who actually only signed his first professional deal with the Magpies back in July.

Newcastle fans react

Stephenson’s early form is fantastic to see.

There is currently a lot of doom and gloom about Newcastle, so good on him for providing fans with something to be pleased about.

Hopefully he is able to sustain this kind of form for as long as possible.

Who knows, maybe it will eventually lead to a first-team promotion.

That’s what should happen if he keeps this level up. Whether it will, given how reluctant Steve Bruce has been to use the likes of Matty Longstaff and Elliot Anderson, is another thing.

On social media, some fans expressed their pride in Stephenson, with some demanding he gets a first-team call-up ahead of this weekend’s game with Manchester United.
