Mehrdad Ghodoussi has called for ‘transparency’ after the latest takeover statement from Newcastle United.

The club have launched another attack on the Premier League ahead of the arbitration hearing.

Mike Ashley has launched two legal battles against the Premier League, as he looks to resurrect the takeover.

PCP Capital Partners agreed to buy Newcastle last year, but the deal collapsed.

The Premier League were unwilling to provide a decision on their Owners’ and Directors’ test, forcing PIF to walk away in July.

We await an update on the club’s CAT case against the Premier League, but the arbitration hearing is set to take place this month.

And ahead of the hearing, Newcastle have released a statement, calling for arbitration to be held in public.

Newcastle release fresh takeover statement; Mehrdad Ghodoussi responds

“The Club has nothing to hide with respect to the arbitration and invites the EPL to agree that it should no longer be held behind closed doors. If the EPL has acted lawfully and properly, it should have no reason to be afraid of the public spotlight,” the club wrote.

They went on to add: “The Club is prepared for every stage of the process to be in public: the public should be able to see the parties’ evidence and arguments as well as the full decision of the Tribunal when it is made.”

They make a good point. What have the Premier League got to hide?

The pressure is mounting on the Premier League. There’s been the European Super League saga too, which the club allude to in their statement.

There has been no transparency at all during this whole saga. And that is what takeover figure Mehrdad Ghodoussi has called for.

Ghodoussi, the husband of Amanda Staveley, wrote on Twitter: “‘Transparency’ is what all football fans deserve.”

Ghodoussi has been keeping an eye on Newcastle, often reacting on Twitter if the Magpies pick up a good result.

Of course, we’ll be hearing a lot more from him if arbitration goes Newcastle’s way and the consortium are allowed to complete a takeover.

It’s hard to know what to make of Newcastle’s latest statement.

Some see it as desperation, others as a power play. I suppose we won’t know until arbitration is completed.

The hearing is set to take place this month, and if Newcastle have their way, the whole thing will be played out in public.

Whether or not that actually happens remains to be seen.
