The silence from the Newcastle United hierarchy is deafening.

After a flurry of information regarding the Saudi takeover bid, the trail has gone cold.

Now the silence may not necessarily be a bad thing. If a takeover is on the horizon, there should be zero leaks coming from the club or the potential new owners.

However, the Chronicle claim that an offer is still yet to be tabled.

This is where we need some clarity from the club. If there’s no chance of Amanda Staveley and co buying Newcastle, the fans deserve to know.

But with season ticket renewals for fans on the 10-year deal looming, are we likely to get confirmation that a deal is off from Mike Ashley?

If word about the takeover not happening comes after the season ticket renewal deadline, the conspiracy theorists will argue that once again it was all smoke and mirrors from Ashley. And sadly it will be hard to argue against that.

The optimists within the Newcastle fan base will believe the takeover silence could be a good thing. They may also think any potential bid may be delayed until the club’s Premier League status is secure.

But for most fans, cynicism reigns supreme.
