Newcastle United are sweating on the fitness of Martin Dubravka ahead of this weekend’s game with Tottenham Hotspur.

According to the Chronicle, the goalkeeper is currently a slight doubt to face Jose Mourinho’s side, having just missed two games for Slovakia.

The 32-year-old had a stomach complaint, meaning he could not face Russia or Malta.

The issue is thought not to be too serious, but Newcastle will be monitoring the player over the next few days.

Dubravka, of course, recently returned to Newcastle’s starting XI to replace Karl Darlow, who had deputised for him whilst he was out with a heel injury.

The English stopper did superbly in the first-half of the season, but saw his form drop off shortly after the turn of the year.

Dubravka – who joined the Magpies for £4.3 million from Sparta Prague after a successful loan (talkSPORT) – replaced Darlow against Wolves last month and has started the past four games in the Premier League.

Dubravka class, but Darlow great cover

There is no denying Dubravka is a quality goalkeeper.

But him having to potentially miss out doesn’t need to be a blow for Newcastle, who have a great deputy in Darlow.

The former Nottingham Forest star showed his quality earlier in the season, and although he may have tailed off in January and February, he can definitely ease any blow of losing Dubravka.
