Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson isn’t fazed by the fact he’s turned 30-years-old. He celebrated his birthday on the 27th of February and wants to keep scoring goals into his 30s.
Speaking on the ‘Footballer’s Football podcast‘ with co-host Michail Antonio, Wilson wants to be on that list of strikers who maintains consistency in the latter stages of his career.
“It depends how you look at it, it’s a positive, they say life begins at 30,” he said.

“So for me, I’ve got to take the positive look. Many players have actually scored so many goals at 30 plus and I think that’s what I’m trying to do really.
“I want to emulate that and get into that hundred club as soon as possible into my 30s.”
Wilson has been a consistent goalscoring threat for Newcastle – hopefully he can pick up where he left off
Since his arrival back in September 2020, the Magpies forward has been a key man. He netted 12 times last season in the Premier League.

This season he has six goals but sustained an injury against Manchester United back in December. A return date is not known yet but most fans will hope Wilson can return as soon as possible.
In recent times we’ve seen the likes of Jamie Vardy for Leicester bang in the goals well into his 30s. He broke the record for most goals scored after turning 30 with a goal against Burnley.
It was his 94th goal after turning that age, beating the original holder of the record Ian Wright. So Wilson has clearly seen him as an influence and a reason that he can still find the net later on in his career.

The Newcastle man currently has 59 goals across his Premier League career. So there’s definitely time for him to become part of the 100 goals club in the top flight of English football.
If he can return at the back end of the season, he very well could add to his tally. It would push him ever closer to the target he’s set himself.
Newcastle are coping without him so far this calendar year. However, his eventual return will undoubtedly be a boost for Eddie Howe and his side.
