Newcastle summer signing Lewis Hall has today joined the England senior squad for training for the first time, in the absence of a number of senior players.
The 18-year-old joined Newcastle this summer on loan with an obligation to buy after a stunning breakthrough at Chelsea last season, and his whirlwind year has now continued as he will train with England’s senior stars.
Journalist Ian Dennis has revealed that Newcastle star Callum Wilson, Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka and Chelsea’s Levi Colwill are not joining training today, with Hall and fellow Chelsea loanee Bashir Humphreys replacing them for today’s session.
“Lewis Hall and Bashir Humphreys joining England senior squad as Callum Wilson, Bukayo Saka and Levi Colwill not involved in training today,” he tweeted.
Hall, 18, is yet to appear for Newcastle this season, and has just one England under-21 cap to his name.
Hall should now be given a chance
Newcastle are set to part with a lot of money once Hall’s loan becomes a permanent move, and he is a signing with the long-term in mind.
There was some surprise when Matt Targett was selected ahead of him at the weekend, given that Sven Botman was absent with injury, and Newcastle fell to their third consecutive defeat at the hands of Brighton, with Hall an unused substitute.
Targett failed to impress as Newcastle lost 3-1, and he was substituted for Jamal Lascelles rather than Hall, with Dan Burn moving back to left-back.

With both Hall and Tino Livramento on the bench as unused substitutes, questions may be raised about why the two young full-backs, who will end up costing a combined fee of nearly £70m, are not able to get onto the pitch even as substitutes.
Nevertheless, Hall is still raw, and should be eased in, but he should at least be given some minutes off the bench as Newcastle face a tough run of fixtures after the international break.
Training with the senior England side, and stars such as Harry Kane, will be beneficial for Hall as he continues his development, and his country have recognised how big a talent he is.
