Newcastle United learned their Champions League fate on Thursday with some interesting fixtures to come in the group stages.

Sandro Tonali will return to AC Milan for Newcastle‘s first game of the Champions League on 19th September. You honestly couldn’t make it up.

Along with the Italian giants Newcastle will face Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund in what many have called the group of death.

Newcastle’s group draw looks far more difficult than Man City’s

Meanwhile, fellow Premier League side, and current holders of the Champions League, Manchester City received a much more favourable draw and will play RB Leipzig, Red Star Belgrade and Young Boys.

According to The Athletic, after the draw a Man City representative text a Newcastle staff member saying “Great draw” to which the Newcastle staffer replied with “Can we swap?”

I’m not sure Newcastle fans would want to swap in all honesty. Yes we have, on paper at least, a much harder group, but it’s also far more exciting.

The whole point of being in the Champions League is to mix it with the best teams in Europe, and Newcastle get to do that in the group stages facing three giants of the game.

Fans will also get to travel to Milan, Paris and Dortmund, three of Europe’s finest cities.

The European nights at St James’ Park are going to be epic

The St James’ Park nights are going to be extra special too as all three teams have extremely passionate fans, and as long as everyone gets along, the carnival atmosphere around the city is going to be something to behold. Not to mention the atmosphere inside the stadium.

We’re in this year’s Champions League to announce our arrival and have fun. I don’t believe any fans are genuinely expecting us to lift the trophy, so let’s enjoy our group.

Manchester City can keep their piddly little easy-peasy group.
