Last summer Newcastle were linked with French holding midfielder Boubacar Kamara. However, the Marseille midfielder wasn’t convinced.
Marseille then valued the holding midfielder, who has been described by former teammate Rolando as ‘out of the ordinary‘ at £15m.
The 22-year-old is now in the final year of his contract and is reportedly attracting interest from the likes of Manchester United.
If reports are to be believed, it appears United are the team with the advantage in the race to sign Kamara. Additionally, the same reports state that AC Milan is also interested in acquiring the services of the young midfielder.
Kamara has played for the French national side at youth level from U17s all the way through to U21s. With Man United needing more options in a holding midfield role, a young exciting prospect like Kamara may fit the bill.

Newcastle should swoop in and get Kamara to Tyneside
Kamara to Man United is far from a done deal though and the Magpies should definitely look to lure him away. Last summer Kamara was allegedly not interested in joining Newcastle, but things have changed.
The Toon Army are now the richest club in world football and have a wealth of funds for January. This means they can now go toe to toe with anyone when it comes to signing players.
Granted, the opportunity might not be the most attractive at the moment with the Magpies sitting 19th in the league. Having said that, what may be able to attract the likes of Kamara is the prospect of joining a sleeping giant.
Should Newcastle survive this season they can push on and become a competitive side once again. With the right players and guarantee of Premier League football, St James’ Park could once again be an opportunity no player wants to turn down.

The Toon Army are in need of holding mifield options and Kamara fits the bill
With the exception of Issac Hayden, Newcastle has no other natural holding midfielders. Firstly, that position is where Kamara is most comfortable and plays there for Marseille.
Furthermore, the Frenchman is versatile too, he’s been known to play at centre-back. Should an injury crisis occur, Kamara could fill in. Having a versatile player in your squad is always useful, it’s no wonder he’s attracting interest across Europe.
Additionally, given his age, Kamara has plenty of years in him and will definitely have his best years ahead of him. His contract with Marseille runs out this summer and with him eyeing up potential clubs, Newcastle should reignite their interest.

There’s no doubt Newcastle are going to have to pull out all the stops to bring Kamara to Tyneside. However, in order to pull off the great escape and survive the Magpies will have to use their newly-acquired hefty budget.
Kamara is far from booking his plane ticket to Manchester, but Newcastle will need to act sooner rather than later. In addition, with few holding midfield options and his exciting potential, Kamara could be one of many exciting signings to arrive in January.
