In August 2020, Newcastle United were linked with a move for Weston McKennie.
According to the Daily Mail, the Magpies were set to challenge Southampton for the midfielder, who was valued at £20million by Schalke.
McKennie did end the summer in a black and white shirt, but it was Juventus rather than Newcastle.
The USA international joined the Serie A giants on loan initially, before making the deal permanent earlier this year. He cost an initial fee of around £16million.

While it was a tough year for Juventus, McKennie enjoyed a strong debut campaign in Italy. He ended the season with 46 appearances and six goals.
However, he may be on the move this summer after Juve announced the arrival of Manuel Locatelli.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, they will now consider offers for McKennie.
Weston McKennie could be perfect for Newcastle
Despite bringing in Joe Willock, Newcastle are still in the market for another midfielder. But this time they want someone a bit more defensive.

So far we’ve been linked with the likes of Hamza Choudhury, Boubacar Kamara and Jens Cajuste. But should McKennie be an option now?
He certainly fits the bill of what we’re looking for. He’s energetic and protects the defence, while he proved at Juventus last season that he’s not shy of scoring himself.
On top of that, he fits the profile of a player Newcastle would want to sign – still only 22-years-old.
As always with the Magpies, however, money could be the issue. They’ve already splashed out once this summer, spending upwards of £20million on Willock. It feels unlikely that they will do it again.

But McKennie could be worth the money. Perhaps even a loan with an option to buy could be proposed.
The midfielder has been on Newcastle’s radar before, and he should be again amid claims he could leave Juventus.
