Newcastle United have been handed yet another injury boost as two more players are now expected to return to training this week.
With Alexander Isak and Joe Willock making their returns from injury against Arsenal, Newcastle are slowly but surely getting back to a very strong squad.
As reported by Edwards on X, both Matt Targett and Elliot Anderson are expected back into first-team training this week ahead of another big game against Wolves.
Newcastle duo set to return to training this week
Newcastle have been sorely missing some options off the bench in the last few months with Eddie Howe very limited in what he can do in late game situations.
We saw that just last week as he brought on super sub Matt Ritchie to net a last minute equaliser against Bournemouth, but it’s not something he’ll want to rely on.
Having Anderson back from injury will give the team a bit more energy in Newcastle’s midfield, something it’s been sorely lacking in their latest run, as well as giving them some added depth up front.
With Dan Burn out of form and heavily criticised for his recent performances Targett will also have an opportunity to impress Howe and stake a claim for that left-back position, at least for the rest of the season.
On social media, Edwards posted: “Some more encouraging news on the injury front: Elliot Anderson will return to training this week along with Matt Targett. Willock and Isak will both be a lot better for run out at the weekend. Light at the end of the tunnel #NUFC.”

Newcastle can no longer use injuries as an excuse
Yes, there are still key players missing from this squad with Joelinton, Sandro Tonali and Callum Wilson all unavailable until the summer which is of course still a huge blow.
However, this squad proved last season that it is capable of competing in games against every team in the Premier League and they should not be settling for mid table.
With their hardest fixtures now out of the way – Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa – Newcastle have to make these last 12 games really count.
Having an almost fully fit squad for the first time in months is absolutely massive and they’ll have to use that to full effect if they are to have any hopes of playing in Europe next season.
