Newcastle United are in an interesting position when it comes to signing players.
Indeed, pretty much every signing the club have made has hit the ground running as Newcastle continue to impress in the transfer market.
PIF, despite their millions, have embarked on a much more sensible recruitment strategy many would have thought possible when the takeover first went through. Superstars just are not on the agenda.
Still, with the club looking to win major trophies too, perhaps more experience will be sought after in the transfer windows to come.
Which brings us to an interesting link with a World Cup winning midfielder.
Toni Kroos: Newcastle interested in Real Madrid star
According to the print edition of the Sunday Express (page 66 on 29/10/2023), Newcastle are among the clubs keen on a move for Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos.
The former German international will be out of contract in the Spanish capital at the end of the season and is reportedly being offered to a number of Premier League clubs.
Newcastle, both Manchester clubs and Chelsea are all said to be tracking the 33-year-old.

Toni Kroos: Newcastle move does not make sense
Few would doubt Kroos and his quality. A five-time Champions League winner with Madrid, a certain Zinedine Zidane hailed him as “spectacular” while in charge of the Spanish giants.
In fact, the Frenchman even said he would boast he was lucky enough to coach a player of that quality when he retired.
Still, it’s hard to see where he fits in at Newcastle.
Indeed, it wasn’t that long ago that reports were suggesting Kroos was considering retirement. Having won it all and now being phased out of the Madrid team, a move to the Premier League hardly seems likely.
Eddie Howe has built a young team with a point to prove. Though sprinkling some experience into that can hardly be a bad thing, Kroos seems too advanced in years to be considered an option for that.
Signing Kroos would be a major departure from what Newcastle have done in the market thus far.
