Three Newcastle United players are now set to miss the next two games against Sunderland and Manchester City at least.
Newcastle have been massively hindered by injuries this season and that doesn’t look to be improving much in the immediate future.
Journalist Craig Hope is now reporting that Joe Willock, Elliot Anderson and Harvey Barnes will not have recovered in time to feature in the next two games with Callum Wilson already a doubt for January.
Newcastle must face Sunderland with the same team
It looks like the same players who have featured in Newcastle’s latest run of games will have to go again on Saturday afternoon with very few options to come off the bench to change the game.
A few players like Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak have still looked tired at times which will be a big concern for Eddie Howe considering he doesn’t really have many other options to play in those positions.
Willock and Barnes in particular have been huge misses this season and can off the team something different tactically as well as being a big boost of energy and pace into the side.
For a game that is pretty much a must win considering they’ve lost seven of their last eight, this is perhaps not shocking news but it is certainly demoralising when they could’ve really used a positive boost.
On X, Hope said: “Sounds like NUFC can add Joe Willock, Harvey Barnes & Elliot Anderson to those, now including Callum Wilson, who will miss both Sunderland & Man City. I’m told trio have little chance of returning until after January mini-break. Kieran Trippier could return Saturday but more news awaited on him.”

Newcastle need to have strong second half of the season
Newcastle will want to almost start their season afresh on Saturday, trying to forget about the Champions League group stage defeat and being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Chelsea earlier in the month.
Getting players back to full fitness and returning to playing just one game a week will be huge for the team and can hopefully lead to a turn in form which sees them shoot back up the Premier League table.
A defeat to Sunderland would obviously be a huge blow and it’s difficult to recover from a game like that when you’re coming off of the worst spell under Howe, but Newcastle simply have to turn things around and quickly.
