Newcastle United have ranked above Spanish giants Barcelona in the net spend rankings over the past decade.
According to the Football Observatory, Newcastle are the sixth highest on the list having made a €671million loss, one spot above Xavi’s side who recorded a €663m loss.
Above them in the rankings are fellow Premier League sides Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City alongside French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
The Red Devils lead the way with a €1.396billion loss, Chelsea come second with €1.033billion and PSG take third spot having lost €1.010billion.
Arsenal come fourth having lost €872million with Manchester City just below them and above the Magpies with a €856m loss.
Making up the rest of the top ten, Tottenham Hotspur are joined by AC Milan and West Ham United.
Spurs ranked eighth after losing €609million, the Italian outfit are ninth on €545million and the Hammers sit below them with €526million lost.
Unsurprisingly, the full list is flooded with English sides. Remarkably, even Bournemouth rank ahead of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, who would have thought?
Back to Newcastle, however, €671million is a lot of money. Let us take a look at where that fee has come from.
Newcastle United’s spending
The Magpies have spent over €153million this summer alone on the signings of Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, Tino Livramento and Yankuba Minteh.
Last season, Newcastle spent roughly €185million on the signings of Alexander Isak, Sven Botman, Matt Targett, Nick Pope, and January signings Anthony Gordon, Harrison Ashby and Garang Kuol.
That is €338million alone over two seasons, add another several campaigns into the mix and the spending quickly racks up despite only having had PIF in control for four transfer windows.
We are not likely to see Newcastle drop much further down the net spend table in the future either with ambitions clearly sky high on Tyneside.
The Magpies have improved their squad in smart fashion over recent seasons, but it does come at a cost.
Fortunately, that is not a worry for the Toon owners.
