Allan Saint-Maximin might just be coming into his own now.
The Newcastle United star was perhaps the one player who had not shown an improvement under Eddie Howe. So often the only shining light of the Steve Bruce era, Saint-Maximin was consistently linked with a move away from St James’ Park.
Still, things may be changing.
The Frenchman has recorded two assists in as many games as Newcastle inject new life into their Champions League challenge.

While competition for places has increased in the form of Anthony Gordon’s signing, the 26-year-old is certainly doing his case to start no harm.
Now, he has sent a fresh message on his future.
Allan Saint-Maximin hits back at transfer reports
As quoted by the Daily Mirror, Saint-Maximin said: “A lot of people say, ‘Maxi don’t really fit in that system’, ‘he doesn’t really run enough’ or things like that. But I know it’s not true.
“When you get the fight I have now, it’s nothing difficult for me. We fight for something, we work for something. It’s a better position to be in.
“I’ve never been in a situation where I start every single game and be part of a team going to be in the Champions League or Europa League. That’s never happened in my career.
“The feeling, my life here, the way I love the supporters, and the way they support me and love me – it’s crazy. They’ve been there when everything was not good. To see myself when everything starts to come together, I feel very good.”

Fantastic to see Saint-Maximin back
It really is wonderful to see Saint-Maximin working his way back.
Having given so much to the team during the Bruce years, it always seemed a shame he could not impress under Howe. Clearly a hugely talented player and popular amongst the fanbase, the idea of him delighting another crowd was always jarring.
Now, that’s not to say Saint-Maximin is the finished product. Still, to see him stepping up speaks to a certain amount of progress being made.
If Howe can unlock him further, the future really could be exciting.
