Newcastle may have been linked with a move for Everton’s Yannick Bolasie, but they need to set the bar higher.

According to the Sun, Newcastle are one of three Premier League clubs interested in signing the winger. The other two clubs mentioned are Southampton and Crystal Palace.

The report states that Everton want £7million for Bolasie, making him an attractive option for multiple clubs in the bottom half of the Premier League.

But while financially it sounds like a decent deal, Newcastle can do better.

Bolasie is not the man for Newcastle

Bolasie is a bit of an enigma. Some of the tricks he does are crazy. A lot of the time it seems like even he doesn’t know what he’s going to do, which makes stopping him even harder.

However, he’s a bit of a Match of the Day player. He can look good on a little highlights package, but over 90 minutes it isn’t quite the same story.

The 29-year-old has spent the past season out on loan, first at Aston Villa then at Anderlecht. His Everton career has been a bit of a bust, one which has been ruined by injury.

Age isn’t on his side and he seems a far cry from the player who was once adored at Palace for his skill and creativity.

Newcastle desperately need attacking reinforcements this summer, but Bolasie shouldn’t be one of them.
