Sunday night saw Yohan Cabaye surprisingly become available on a free transfer.
The French midfielder left UAE club Al Nasr with immediate effect and could provide a great option for the Magpies.

Despite only leaving Crystal Palace six months ago for pastures new, Cabaye’s situation is one that Rafael Benitez should look to take advantage of.
Forced exit
The Toon Army weren’t impressed by their former midfield maestro’s forced exit in 2014. However, they could certainly benefit from what he still has to offer. He was a fans’ favourite on Tyneside before his exit and the opportunity could see him reunite with the supporters who once adored him.

MORE NEWCASTLE STORIES
United are lumbered in the bottom three and Benitez is in desperate need of reinforcements. With Ki-Sung Yeung on international duty and Jonjo Shelvey and Mo Diame injured, Newcastle had to play youngster Sean Longstaff alongside Isaac Hayden against Chelsea.
Cabaye would be a great addition and offer more competition for places. He would also bring a level of quality that is severely lacking to St James’ Park.
As he is available on a free, it would only be his wages and sign-on free that provide the stumbling blocks to complete the signing. A short-term deal could suit all parties, including Mike Ashley.
