Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth is now the subject of interest from Manchester United, but he will not be going anywhere.
Man United’s partial takeover is advancing, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe set to buy 25% of the club, and in his search for a sporting director to join him, he has been impressed by the work Ashworth has done.
Newcastle landed a diamond in Ashworth when they poached him from Brighton, and his work has helped build a squad capable of challenging at the higher end of the table.
It has now been reported that Newcastle will not let Ashworth go if United attempt to recruit him, and that he has no intention of leaving any time soon.
Ashworth wants to stay at Newcastle
A report from iNews has now claimed that Ashworth is fully committed to his role at Newcastle, and that he wants to help build a dynasty at the club which will see the Magpies regularly qualify for Champions League football.
Newcastle are also confident that they will keep hold of him, and they now see themselves as a club where they will no longer lose key figures or be treated as a stepping stone.
This comes as a relief for Newcastle fans, given how important Ashworth has been to the current project.
Ashworth’s importance at Newcastle

Since officially joining in the summer of 2022, Newcastle have enjoyed a rapid rise up the table, and nearly every signing made under Ashworth has been successful.
His greatest hits have been the signings of Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon and Sven Botman, and he has worked well with manager Eddie Howe to help bring Newcastle back to the Champions League.
Given the chaos at Man United right now, and the positivity radiating from Newcastle, it is no wonder that Ashworth has no intention of trading clubs.
