Newcastle United could do with a busy January transfer window.
While FFP problems continue to loom, an injury crisis has decimated Newcastle’s squad as they attempt to battle across a number of fronts.
Such a lengthy injury list and Sandro Tonali’s ten month ban from football have left options for Eddie Howe light at a time when his schedule is particularly busy.
With that in mind, a number of names keep emerging when on the transfer rumour front.
Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips continues to be linked with a move to St James’ Park and now there has been a fresh update.
Newcastle transfer news: Kalvin Phillips latest
Indeed, according to TuttoJuve, Newcastle are currently highest bidders for the midfielder.
It is claimed that despite loan interest from Italian giants Juventus, City would like to sell to the highest bidder in January.
Interestingly, Real Madrid are also credited with an interest in the former Leeds midfielder, who has struggled for game time since leaving Elland Road for the Etihad Stadium for a reported £42m.
Newcastle are said to be leading the chase and are currently believed to be outbidding the European giants.

Kalvin Phillips: Newcastle transfer makes sense
Hugely experienced in the Premier League, it’s easy to forget just how good Phillips was at Leeds.
Compared to Andrea Pirlo for his performances in England’s run to the Euro 2020 final, City teammate John Stones was also blown away by his “outrageous” passing range.
With questions as to whether or not Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes could play together even before the Italian’s ban, moving for a more traditional No.6 who could presumably hit the ground running given his experience in England would make sense in a mid-season transfer window.
Phillips would also have a point to prove ahead of the Euros as he looks to guarantee a spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad, so it could be a move that works for all parties.
