Crystal Palace have now joined the race for Blackburn’s Adam Wharton who was a target for Newcastle United in the summer.

Newcastle had targeted the midfielder in the summer, but a deal never materialised and the 19-year-old stayed on at Ewood Park for the upcoming Championship season.

The Sun are now reporting that Crystal Palace have joined Newcastle in their interest in the Championship star, but Blackburn would demand a large fee to pry away one of their most important players.

Wharton’s versatility makes him attractive option for Newcastle

Crystal Palace are going through a bit of a midfield injury crisis themselves and have identified Wharton as an ideal candidate who can play multiple roles in the middle of the park if necessary.

Newcastle, on the other hand, are obviously missing Sandro Tonali to a 10-month suspension while Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock are also unavailable through injury.

The 19-year-old’s ability to play as a defensive or attacking midfielder is certainly attractive to both clubs, but his qualities also make him a very expensive option.

Wharton has made 17 appearances for Blackburn this season, picking up two assists in that time and attracting a lot of interest with Newcastle’s Premier League rivals Everton and Tottenham also thought to be keen.

Wharton tipped to be future star

During his time in the Championship, Wharton has been a very ‘impressive’ talent and has worked his way through the England youth ranks in the last few years, making his debut for the Under-20s just last month.

He has been labelled as one to watch in the next few years with his ability to play with both feet and determination to press the ball and win possession back notified as a particular highlight of his game.

The young man will now face a big decision in the next few windows as big teams continue to show interest in him and Blackburn still lingering around the play-off positions in the second division.

His next move will be crucial to his development, and Newcastle will surely be in with a chance of attracting the midfielder after showing what Eddie Howe can do to completely transform a player.
